Business name generator, with a domain check
Describe your project in a few words. Fox suggests eight names and checks at once whether a domain for each one is still free.
A name and a domain in ten seconds
It is the same step the full idea check takes: the names and their domains arrive in its report.
We read what the project is
Your description becomes one phrase, such as coffee to go with ordering ahead by a station.
We come up with eight names
They differ in kind: descriptive names, metaphors, short words. Each one comes with why it fits.
We check the domains
The registries answer over RDAP, or over WHOIS where RDAP is missing. A guess by the model never counts.
We mark the free ones
A free domain shows in green. A name that matches a competitor gets a mark too.
Four tests before you fall for a name
Say it once
A good name survives a phone call: people can spell it after hearing it one time.
Search for it
Type it into a search engine. If 10 other businesses share it, you will fight them for every click.
Own the domain
Take the .com when it is free. A hyphen or an extra word is fine; a different spelling usually is not.
Check the trademark
A free domain is not a free trademark. Search the trademark register of your country before you print anything.
Got a name? Check the whole idea
Demand, competitors, prices and unit economics in a minute. Free, with sources.
Questions
How do I come up with a business name?
Start with what you sell and to whom. A good name is easy to say, easy to spell after hearing it once and easy to find in search, and a domain for it is still free. Two or three syllables are usually enough.
How do you check that a domain is free?
We ask the registries directly over RDAP, and over WHOIS where RDAP is missing. So "free" here means nobody had registered it at the moment of the check, a fact from the registry and never a guess. Each of the 8 names gets its own answer.
What if the .com is taken?
Add a word that says what you do or where (a city, a product), or try another zone such as .co or .io. Better still, pick a name where the main zones are all free: a brand is easier to protect that way.
Is it free?
Yes, with no sign-up. With an account the names stay in your idea's history, and in Go to market Fox builds a logo and a brand kit for the name you choose.
Can I register the name as a trademark right away?
A free domain does not mean a free trademark. Search your country's trademark register before you launch; in the United States that is the USPTO's database, which covers federal marks in all 50 states. It is a separate step, and we do not replace it.
