Questions
How do I fill in a business plan template in Microsoft Word?
Replace the sample text section by section and keep the template's heading styles, so the Navigation Pane and any table of contents update on their own. Save a copy under a new name before you start, and delete sections that do not apply to you instead of leaving them blank.
Is a one-page lean canvas enough, or do I need a full plan?
A lean canvas is enough to decide whether an idea is worth more work. You need a full plan when you ask a bank, a landlord or a partner for money or a commitment. Many founders start with the lean canvas and expand it into the plan later.
Where do I get real numbers for the market section of a template?
Check the idea on our site to get demand, competitors, complaints and prices, each with its source. For the size of the market, use the market size calculator, and follow the market analysis guide if you are writing that section for the first time.
Can I use a free business template for an investor pitch?
Yes, investors judge the numbers and the evidence, and the file's design carries little weight. Pair the go-to-market plan with what your customer interviews told you, so you can show what buyers said. Keep every figure linked to where it came from.
What should I do before I start any template?
Write down who the customer is, what they pay for today and what you would charge. If you have no idea yet, the idea finder suggests options, and the guide on how to start a business lists the steps in order.
A blank template or a filled one?
Describe your idea. The check gathers the market, the competitors, the prices and the unit economics, ready to move into any template.
