Packaging and offer: how to write a value proposition
A value proposition is a short statement of who your product is for, which problem it solves, and why that customer should pick it over the alternatives. You write it from your checked idea and finished concept, then test it on real prospects before it goes on your site, ads and pitch.

Where to start with your value proposition
Reread your idea check
Pull the customer, the problem and the alternatives straight from your idea check and concept. If you skipped the check, run it first so the statement rests on data rather than a guess.
Learn the term and the formula
Read the glossary entry on the Customer Value Proposition (CVP), then open the Value Proposition Statement Template and Formulas. Fill in the template once with your own customer and outcome.
Work through positioning and value proposition
The guides in this group cover turning features into benefits, writing the statement, testing it, communicating it and the mistakes to avoid. Take them in that order and rewrite your draft after each one.
Decide whether to hand off the packaging
The Product packaging stage of Go to market drafts positioning, a USP, the offer and pricing, and you choose among the variants. Check what it makes and what it costs before you decide.

Go to market: product packaging, presentation
- Product packaging — the positioning, the USP, the offer and the price.
- Presentation — a product presentation for customers.
The concept comes first. Go to market is built on the concept of a checked idea: first the check and the concept, then Go to market.
What stays yours: choosing among the positioning and offer variants — you approve this step
Questions
Is a value proposition the same thing as a slogan?
No. A slogan is a short line built to be remembered, while a value proposition states the customer, the problem and the result you deliver. Write the value proposition first, then shorten it into a headline or tagline if you need one.
What is the difference between a value proposition and a USP?
The value proposition describes the whole outcome a customer gets from you. The USP is the single point that separates you from the alternatives that customer already uses. The Product packaging stage in Go to market drafts both, and you pick the variant that fits.
How short should a value proposition be?
Short enough that a visitor reads it at a glance on your home page: a headline plus a supporting sentence is a common shape. If you need a paragraph to explain it, the customer or the problem is still too broad. The template in the library gives formulas that keep it tight.
How do I test a value proposition before launch?
Show it to people who match your target customer and ask them to repeat back what you offer and for whom. You can also run a simple landing page with different headlines and compare sign-ups. The testing guide in the Positioning and value proposition group walks through both.
Where should I use my value proposition once it is written?
Put it in your site's main headline and your ads, then in your pitch and your product presentation, using the same wording everywhere. The Presentation stage of Go to market builds a product presentation for customers from your packaging. Finding the buyers and closing sales stays your job.
How we made this page. The list of guides is our map of this sub-hub's topics: a guide with a link is built and checked by an editor, and the others are planned. The glossary term and the template come from the site's one library, Glossary and Templates, and this page lists the ones its topics need. The block «What the package makes» takes the package's stage and price from our price list and says which decisions stay yours. Prepared on 15 October 2026.
